Gypsy Moth Prevention

Our Gypsy moth (Spongy Moth) prevention service helps eliminate Gypsy moth caterpillar populations on your property before they defoliate and kill your valuable trees.  Invasive Gypsy moth populations are at unprecedented levels across many parts of Ontario and Eastern Canada. Moderate to Severe defoliation has been extremely widespread devastating millions of hectares of forest each year in Ontario alone.  Experts anticipate the problem will continue to be even worse. 

Our Gypsy moth service includes wrapping the trunk of each tree with a specially designed tape that is very sticky.  Each tree is wrapped in early spring (May- Early June) before the caterpillar (larvae) life stage of the Gypsy moth emerges. This trunk wrap is very sticky tape and prevents the caterpillars from traveling up and down the tree trunk.  The caterpillars get stuck to this wrap and die when they can’t crawl free.  This sticky tape wrap remains sticky for months and helps prevent damage from caterpillars and reduces the risk of defoliation to the tree's foliage.
